It consists of a number of rods, from which weighted objects or further rods hang. The objects hanging from the rods balance each other, so that the rods remain more or less horizontal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;Alexander Calder<\/strong>&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"134\" src=\"http:\/\/www.worcesterfreelibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-730\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Artist&nbsp;Alexander Calder&nbsp;was the originator of the mobile. By suspending forms that move with the flow of air,&nbsp;Calder&nbsp;revolutionized sculpture. Schaefer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guggenheim.org\/artwork\/movement\/kinetic-art\">https:\/\/www.guggenheim.org\/artwork\/movement\/kinetic-art<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scavenger hunt<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Collect items that are no longer needed and match these descriptive clues:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Game\/puzzle pieces from old a discarded games and puzzles<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Old deck of cards<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction\/colored paper, left over greeting cards from Christmas past<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pine cones, acorns, pieces of drift wood<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Broken pieces of costume jewelry<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Empty food cans (washed and dried)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardboard rolls from toilet paper and paper towels<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anything you think that might flow freely with the air<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you need:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>String, ribbon, fishing line (you choose what works best for the objects you are using)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tree branches, dowel sticks, heavy cardboard, old metal<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>clothes hangers (something to use for hanging your objects from, cut into different lengths)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glue or hot glue<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hole punch, pliers used to bend wire if your using the hangers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paints (if you want to paint your objects)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Collect 6-10 objects that are about the same weight as one another. I used cat food can tops<\/li><li>Tie fishing line\/ string to each object, and leave about 6 inches of string left over.<\/li><li>Start at the bottom level of your mobile, and tie one of your objects to each end of a stick \/ or whatever you choose to use (wire hanger, branches etc)<\/li><li>Tie a piece of fishing line\/string to the middle of the stick that has the objects tied to it. Find the center of balance by holding the string up and letting the stick hang.
